How often does a Disney World split stay beat one room?

When a client wants Walt Disney World in the next two weeks, the answer from Disney is often a room at the next price level up, or no room at all. We wanted to know how often a split stay (two reservations, one move) does better, so on October 13, 2026 we ran live searches for every arrival date over the next two weeks.

The short answer: a split stay was the fix on 3 in 10 trips. It was the only way to book some Value stays, and at Deluxe resorts it came in cheaper on nearly half of them.

The short version

  • 168 live searches: arrivals October 14 to 27, 2026, 3 to 6 nights, 2 adults, one resort category at a time.
  • A split was the only option or at least 5% cheaper on 50 of 168 trips (3 in 10).
  • Deluxe: cheaper on 26 of 56 trips, median saving $332. Value: the only way to book on 5 trips and cheaper on 12 more (median $347). Moderate: cheaper on 7 of 56, median $831.
  • Further out it's rarer, but busy weeks (early December, New Year's) still had splits a quarter to a half cheaper.

Over budget: $3,085 or $1,467 for the same six nights

For October 20 to 26, 2026, no Value room was open all six nights. The cheapest single room for the whole trip was at a Moderate resort: Coronado Springs, Village, Preferred Location, for $3,085. Five nights at All-Star Sports, then one night at Pop Century, covered the same dates for $1,467. That is $1,618 less, or 52% less than the cheapest single room, by moving once.

This is the most common way a client ends up over budget close to check-in: the cheaper rooms are full on a night or two, so the cheapest room open every night jumps a price level.

A Value trip: $966 or $720

For October 21 to 24, 2026, three nights in one Art of Animation Little Mermaid Standard Room cost $966. The cheaper All-Star rooms weren't open all three nights, but two nights at All-Star Music followed by one at Pop Century were: $720. That saved $246, a quarter of the price, by moving once.

Three boards of tiles, one each for Value, Moderate and Deluxe, showing for every arrival day and stay length whether a split was the only way to book, cheaper, or not needed.
Slide 4

How often a split was the fix, by resort category

Each tile on this board is one live search: arrival day across (October 14 to 27), stay length down (3 to 6 nights), for 2 adults, searching one category at a time with up to one room change.

  • Value: 17 of 56 trips. On 5 no single Value room was open every night and a split was the only way to book; on 12 more it was at least 5% cheaper (median $347, 17%). On 2 trips nothing at Value was open at all.
  • Moderate: 7 of 56 trips, but large when it happened: a median saving of $831 (26%).
  • Deluxe: 26 of 56 trips, a median saving of $332 (9%).

Overall a split was the only option or at least 5% cheaper on 50 of 168 trips. The tight dates cluster: October 14 to 15 and October 20 to 23 were hard, while the last few days of the window were nearly all one-room trips.

Five numbered rules for booking last-minute Disney World rooms.

5 rules for last-minute Disney World rooms

  1. Price a split before you move a client up a category. When the cheaper resorts are full a night or two, the cheapest single room jumps a level. One move often keeps the trip where the client wanted it.
  2. Look across every resort in the category. They sell out unevenly: your first pick can be full while its neighbor isn't.
  3. Full? Check again around 8 days out. Room-only reservations can be canceled for a full refund until 8 days before check-in, so rooms can come back then.
  4. Try a day either side. Disney limits which stay lengths it sells from each arrival day.
  5. Recheck before you quote. Nothing is held while the client decides.
